چکیده

The U.S. Army’s Generalized Intelligent Framework for Tutoring (GIFT) is an important step on the path toward a loosely coupled, serviceoriented system that would promote shareable modules and could underpin multiagent architectures. However, the current version of the system may be “heavier” than it needs to be and not ideal for new or veteran ITS developers. We begin our critique with a discussion of general principles of multiagent architecture and provide a simple example. We then look at the needs of ITS developers and consider features of a general-purpose framework which would encourage message-driven, multiagent designs, sharing of services, and porting of modules across systems. Next, we discuss features of the GIFT framework that we believe might encourage or discourage adoption by the growing ITS community. We end by offering three recommendations for improvement.

MIPITS and IKAS – Two Steps towards Truly Intelligent Tutoring System Based on Integration of Knowledge Management and Multiagent Techniques

During the last decades modern information and telecommunication technologies which enable student-centered and one-to-one learning are widely used. The concept of intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) emerged and many systems are developed to add adaptivity and intelligence to traditional distance learning systems. The common architecture of ITSs is overviewed. The conceptual framework based on i...

Establishing an Argument-Based Validity Approach for a Low-Stake Test of Collocational Behavior

Most of the validation studies conducted across varying test application contexts are usually framed within the traditional conceptualization of validity and therefore lack a comprehensive framework to focus on test score interpretations and test score use. This study aimed at developing and validating a collocational behavior test (CBT), drawing on Kane's argument-based approach to validity. F...

Utilizing Generalized Learning Automata for Finding Optimal Policies in MMDPs

Multi agent Markov decision processes (MMDPs), as the generalization of Markov decision processes to the multi agent case, have long been used for modeling multi agent system and are used as a suitable framework for Multi agent Reinforcement Learning. In this paper, a generalized learning automata based algorithm for finding optimal policies in MMDP is proposed. In the proposed algorithm, MMDP ...

An Architecture for Learning Environments Based on the Lightweight Integration of Intelligent Agents

The main objectives of this chapter are to provide a review of multi-agent platforms for learning environments, to discuss the use of lightweight integration technologies in learning management systems, and to outline the theoretical framework for a multi-agent based platform for course provisioning. The proposed framework places a message switching system at the center of the architecture, pro...
